A rainy morning last June 25 did not stop the fans from getting a copy of SNSD’s newest release, Hoot mini album and Mr. Taxi. The moment the doors of Odyssey SM Megamall branch were open to the public, everybody run to get in line first and grab their own copy and a handful of freebies. Many types of freebies were given, included in these are limited edition poster, ballers, keychains, photocards, folders and the most wanted among all of them are the tumblers. The first two hundred buyers got a tumbler for buying an album bundle, which is Hoot and Mr. Taxi. Fans got to choose between the two designs of the tumbler presented and people who bought 2 album bundles got both of the designs.

A very long line has appeared out of nowhere and fans never run out of the store. The very long line continued until past noon, all of them eager to buy an album and get their freebies especially the tumbler which was running out very fast as more fans went in. Fans who have already bought their copies took the chance to take their pictures with the standees of SNSD while waiting for the program to start.

The program started at around 3:30 in the afternoon. Local girl groups gave their performances dancing to the music of Girl’s Generation. The first group was called SLSD and they gave their own version of dance performance of Hoot and Mr. Taxi. Their lively moves made the crowd cheer as they sang along with the song. The next group was called 9 Flames and they made the crowd cheer harder as they performed Mr. Taxi, Hoot, and Run Devil Run.

In between the performances, MCA did a raffle of the Girl’s Generation Standees. Fans had to check for their receipt number as they anticipate the lucky number to be drawn. 9 standees were given away to 9 lucky buyers. Every time a number was called out, everybody would yell that the winner is not present hoping that their number will be picked next. A last performance was given by both groups doing a collaboration which even drove the crowd wild. Afterwards, due to large demands and requests, MCA gave another four standees of the girl group to another four lucky winners. The program ended with fans left beyond satisfied getting more than just the new album of Girl’s Generation.

How did Girls’ Generation capture the world?

Cable channel SBS E!TV “StarQ10″ looked into the charms of Girls’ Generation, who has been leading the Hallyu wave in various countries around the world.

With many samchon fans in Korea, Girls’ Generation has gained the nickname of “president of the army”. They have also been called the “pretty leg group” in Japan, becoming known as the leaders of the Hallyu wave.

Also, when plans were revealed of an American/Canadian Girls’ Generation fanclub called Soshified (Editor’s Note: For whatever reason, the Korean media generally never seems to acknowledge Soshified as being an international fansite) organizing a field trip to Korea for 100 of its members, it showed just how popular the group actually is.

During this broadcast, along with showing proof of Girls’ Generation’s worldwide popularity, they will also be looking into 6 keywords behind “SM idol groups drawing a new Hallyu map with K-POP”.

On May 17th, SNSD was a hot issue on various online communities and Twitter. The reason for this was because they made an appearance at a music festival at Hanyang University.

SNSD captivated their audience by performing to ‘Gee’, ‘Run Devil Run’, ‘Oh!’, and ‘Hoot’. It was said that SNSD came back to Korea in between their busy Japanese promotions just to perform at the festival.

Also, the response to SNSD’s performance was simply amazing.

One netizen stated, “At this age, I never knew I would go back to the college I graduated from just to see SNSD. I never went anywhere just to see celebrities, but I waited 3 hours just to see SNSD.”

Another netizen stated, “It was so hectic that I thought Hanyang University was going to collapse. It was as though when the girls came out, all the students had an out of body experience. Also, when SNSD sang ‘Gee’ I was reminded of the military because of all the guys singing along to it.”

Other netizens commented, “I thought I was at some photography convention. Everyone here brought very high end cameras and camcorders. So much so that I was too embarrassed to film with my cell phone.” “It was a good thing no one got hurt despite the large mass of people.” “Even though the other singers were good, SNSD was the winner and simply stood out above the rest.”
